Sharkey asked me to come spin some records with him. Sharkey has a lot of stuff going on - been killing it with his own joints and with Monster Maker. He stays up in the magazines and on the road with a busy touring schedule. He definitely reps for DC. So I’m like “yeah homie, where do I show up?”

I’ll be digging in my stash of joints that never come out the house for a gig. Indie rawk, electro, old school hip-hop album cuts, I really have no idea what it’ll be other than the exact opposite of a usual DJ Stylus set. So if you want to drink cheap beer at a dive bar with a free-form musical agenda in a gentrification resistant sector of the city (but not for long), or if you fondly remember the anarchy that was Kingpin, hollerate….

Evoking the spirit of “bal populaire” and vintage French parties, acclaimed French vocalist Simone Marchand will perform our favorite Edith Piaf songs, including “Milord”, “La vie en rose”, “Je ne regrette rien” and other famous hits of the same era. Her deep belief in these tunes from French Songs Glory Days, together with her own vibrant stage presence make Simone Marchand the most incredible performer of France’s musical patrimony.

Much like last year there will be music, visuals and the spirit of one of Nigeria’s most noted artists of all times. The added plus for this year’s bash is the presence of Philly-based DJ and Afrobeat maestro, Rich Medina. The co-founder of Jump-N-Funk and producer of the new AfroDisco party, which premieres on Monday, October 15th, Rich is highly celebrated for his contribution to the movement that pushes Afrobeat music and culture. The event also features The Soul Controllers‘ “dynamic duo”, DJs Stylus and JaHsonic with special guest, I-Wah, “the Beat Priest” and the incomparable Painted Lady Performance Project is back with a fitting tribute to the women that framed Fela’s life and music.
