Black President’s Day serves as the official DC tribute to Afrobeat creator Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. This year as part of the festivities we have two new additions to the DC Felabration.
First, we have partnered with The Beat Inn, a Facebook group of aspiring and professional music producers, for what we calling our ‘Chops 4 Seven’ competition. Beginning on Thursday, October 18th and leading up to the main event we will countdown the seven best chops and feature them in the dj sets on the Oct. 24th.
Second, in honor of the womenfolk that held Fela down we are hosting the first ever Queens’ Stroll where painted ladies (come one, come all) will stroll from 12th and U Streets on down to the main event. More information will be posted on this shortly.
As always we have a great dj line up that includes:
And live art by our own Kalakuta revolutionary, Aniekan Udofia.
